In 2000, the first ÖKOPROFIT® program was launched in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), initiated in Dortmund and implemented by B.A.U.M. Consult from Hamm. Dortmund was one of the first cities in Germany to recognize the potential of the then new programme for the structured introduction of an environmental management system for companies of all sizes and sectors.
From the second project onwards, the program was supported by the NRW Ministry of the Environment, as a result of which many municipalities included ÖKOPROFIT® in their sustainability strategies. Since then, NRW has developed into a hotspot: over 240 programs have been successfully implemented and more than 2,600 companies and facilities have been certified as ECOPROFIT® companies.
B.A.U.M. Consult has played a leading role in over 180 ÖKOPROFIT® rounds. The modular approach, the proximity to practice and the strong network character still make the program an important instrument for effectively anchoring environmental goals in everyday corporate life.
Many companies and organizations continue their cooperation in the ECOPROFIT® Club after their initial participation – and continuously develop their environmental and sustainability measures.
Our services
As part of the ÖKOPROFIT® projects in NRW, B.A.U.M. Consult took over the complete process design – from project coordination to the awarding of the participating companies. The central services included
- Network meetings with added value:
- Organization and moderation of eight thematically wide-ranging workshops with a focus on environmental and climate protection. The content ranged from energy efficiency and waste avoidance to legal requirements – embedded in the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
- Individual advice for companies:
- Professional support with inventory and data analysis, identification of potential savings, status check of legal environmental requirements and development of an action-oriented environmental program.
Audit preparation:
Support for the companies during the internal check and the external audit as part of the ÖKOPROFIT® audit.

- Coordination of the award:
- Planning and implementation of the final event for the ÖKOPROFIT® company award – a high-profile milestone for every participating company.
