As part of the “Energy-efficient urban redevelopment – integrated district concepts and redevelopment managers” funding program of the Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW funding program 432), the municipality of Breuna decided to strategically and systematically develop the energy efficiency and heat supply of all districts.
Breuna was divided into six districts for targeted implementation: Rhöda, Wettesingen, Oberlistingen, Breuna I, Breuna II and Niederlistingen. This made it possible to derive needs-oriented, district-specific measures and formulate tailored recommendations.
In addition to the technical analysis, social, demographic and climate-related aspects were also taken into account. A central element was the extensive participation of citizens: Neighborhood inspections, public events, an online survey and regular webinars allowed needs, ideas and concerns to be incorporated directly into the concept development.
The energy district concepts developed focus specifically on synergies between the heating transition, mobility and climate adaptation. They identify potential savings, activate building owners and create practical measures for liveable, resilient neighborhoods.
